Holiday Calories

Doctor Oz reported on his show today that the average American eats 600 extra calories every day between Thanksgiving and New Years!!!!!  That’s a total of 22,800 extra calories over 38 days!  And we all know that those extra calories are mostly from sugar and fat.  Doctor Oz recommends replacing one stick of butter in your baked goods with 1/2 cup of canned pumpkin.  Pumpkin provides great flavor and moisture and cuts out 87 grams of fat from the stick of butter.

One of the best ways to increase your energy and stay healthy this Christmas season is to practice restraint.  Say “no thank you” often.  Keep healthy snacks with you, in your desk, purse, or car so that  you can bypass the cookie tray.  Eat well before you go to the office party. Bake less.  Set a good example and teach your kids moderation.  Snack on fruit and nuts.  Ask a loved one to hold you accountable.  And  most of all, enjoy the seasons sweets within reason.
